“Antrim County Democratic Party
If you’re just looking at election results, 2010 was not a very good year for Democrats in Antrim County. But if you’re looking at accomplishments, contributions to the community, and public educational efforts, 2010 was another great year for the Antrim County Democratic Party. As they have done in past years, such as 2009, when they passed out an entire semi-truck full of free Thanksgiving turkeys to financially strapped Antrim County families, financed a trip to Washington, D.C. to the presidential inauguration for two Elk Rapids students and sponsored several public informational forums, as well as a movie premiere in the village of Bellaire, the Antrim County Democratic Party was busy in 2010, sponsoring “scholarships“ for a number of Antrim County students to an appearance by Michigan Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Kelly at the Blue Pelican banquet hall in August, and a very informative presentation by DNRE geologists Ann Stephens and Mark Cromell on the controversial subject of “hydro-fracking” for natural gas in November. In addition, the Antrim County Democratic Party continued their philanthropic efforts, conducting several food drives at area supermarkets over the course of the year, which collectively raised more than $9,000 in food and cash for the food pantries of the county. Antrim County needs more community-involved organizations like the Antrim County Democratic Party, which works hard to improve the lives of everyonein the county every day, regardless of their political affiliation.”
The Antrim County Democratic Party is an active, grassroots organization that focuses on issues that affect us all. These include meeting the needs of the people by serving social justice, civil liberty and the common good. We support the full participation of all elements of society in political and governmental processes. Among our members are moderates, progressives, independents and those who lean either toward the right or left. We are totally inclusive. Our organization has grown from a handful of members in 2003, to more than 250 on our current contact list. And we are growing.
Our bylaws spell out our two guiding principles - "the principle of people - serving social justice, civil liberty and the common good", and "the principle of democracy - working for accessibility of all political and governmental processes, and for the full participation of all elements of society in those processes".
Please go to our bylaws for more information about our purposes and our organization.
For people who don’t have email, we have set up an Antrim County Democratic Party folder in each of the District Libraries in the County. The folder has membership application forms both for us (the ACDP) and for the Michigan Democratic Party. We regularly add meeting minutes, event notices and other important information to the folders. Volunteers call the non-email members to let them know that new information has been added.
Look at our meeting schedule. Everyone is welcome to attend. You do not need to be a County resident or a registered voter to be a member of our organization.
We also have a very active women’s group - 100 + strong. Its activities and plans are posted on the events page.
Please check out our 2007 "recruitment letter" which gives some of the many persuasive reasons for GETTING INVOLVED!
